Top Ten Tuesday

This week's topic is:
Top Ten Books I've read so far in 2013...
(links take you to my reviews)

If He Had Been With Me by Laura Nowlin - Just amazing.

Death Cloud
 by Andrew Lane
 - I didn't really think I would like this series much, but it's turned into one of my favorites.

Icons by Margaret Stohl - I was really excited for Margaret's solo project and it did not disappoint.

The Archived by Victoria Schwab - She always just makes these fantastic stories that will give you goosebumps.

The Fault in Our Stars by John Green - Just as good as I expected it to be. ♥

Tuesdays at the Castle by Jessica Day George - Lots of fun. I want to live at Castle Glower.

Ready Player One by Ernest Cline - This was another really fun one. An all around great read for all ages.

Destroy Me by Tahereh Mafi - I read Unravel Me this year too and that could have been on this list, but I love that with Destroy Me we get to see inside Warner. He's such a guarded character and this was a great glimpse beneath his steel doors.

Shades of Earth by Beth Revis - Though I didn't want this series to end, I tore through this book. It's was a satisfying conclusion to their centuries long trip.

Where You Are by J.H. Trumble - So moving.

The Broke and the Bookish is a group of college aged and twenty somethings that have an unhealthy obsession with reading and would spend every last penny on books even if it meant skipping a few meals. We are the people  who lurk in the library, buy handbags based on how many books can be stashed in them, and who refer to characters in books as if they are personal friends.
We sought after other bookish college students to share in our love for reading and were brought together by the College Students group on Goodreads that was created in September 2008. Our desire to share great books with each other in and our tendency to be opinionated and passionate about all things book related naturally led to the birth of The Broke and the Bookish in June 2010.

Da was dying, so he taught Mackenzie everything he knew. He taught her everything she would need to know in order to be a Keeper. As Keeper, Mackenzie has to escort the waking dead back into the Archive where they can be put to rest again. Of course, the job is never as easy as it seems and comes with a price. She has to lie to everyone she knows and she has to deal with the thought that one of those waking dead might be someone she doesn't want to put back to sleep. When her family moves into a new place, the activity picks up around the Archive, it almost seems like someone is waking the dead on purpose. Who would do that though and how would they get access to them? Mackenzie has to figure it out before she loses everyone she loved or herself.

The was a very wonderful and exciting novel. I loved this re-imagined afterlife. The idea that we are constantly recording our own histories and that when we die a copy of ourselves keeps all of that intact is comforting, strange and wonderful. I always love new twists on things, especially things that no one knows the truth about.

I like Mackenzie too, even if she seemed a bit boy crazy. The second she sees one she latches on. It was a bit strange. But, sans boys she seems quite nice. I wish we could have gotten to know Da. He seemed like a very closed person, but very interesting. There was a lot going on behind his eyes.

I thought I had the plot all figured out, but then some quite unexpected things were revealed. It was all most excellent. I can not wait to see what happens in the next book, even though this ending was wholly satisfying. I just want to hand out in the Archives a bit more.

So, if you haven't checked this one out yet, get to it. It's amazing.

First Line:
"The Narrows remind me of August nights in the South."

Favorite Line:
"But you left something out.
It is beautiful."

Top Ten Tuesday

This week's topic is:
Top Ten Books on my Spring TBR list...
(yeah I may have switched this week and last week...oh well)

Level 2 by Lenore Appelhans
 - Fellow blogger and a dystopian, check.

The Archived by Victoria Schwab
- Libraries and Schwab, check.

Gone, Gone, Gone by Hannah Moskowitz - She writes these faster than I can read them, so I need to get caught up.

How to Lead a Life of Crime
 by Kirsten Miller
- Just caught up with the Kiki Strike books, so on to this!

Mind Games by Kiersten White - Just realized I haven't read Endlessly yet...oh well, new series!

Maggot Moon by Sally Gardner
- Before I bought this, I thought it was a graphic novel. It sounds really interesting. Very different and a bit unsettling.

The Madman's Daughter by Megan Shepard - I've been told this is amazing by a friend, so I shall read it. Plus, I always love a re-telling.

Paper Valentine by Brenna Yovanoff - I liked Brenna's other novels, so on to the next.

Then You Were Gone by Lauren Strasnick - This just sounds really fantastic.

Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell - This one sounds so cute and fun. We shall see!
