Ashline Wilde and her sister Eve were adopted. Eve is the wild one, running away from home and causing destruction as she goes. Ashline hasn't seen Eve in a while, but when Eve comes back Ashline is scared. When Eve's violence finally pushes too far, Ashline decides to transfer to Blackwood. A private school on the other side of the country seems the perfect place to start over and start feeling normal. But, normal just isn't in the cards for Ashline and she finds that her and a few of her classmates may be a bit extraordinary, as in gods and goddesses. There is also no way that Ashline can hide from Eve or the strange creatures that lurk in the woods. Ashline isn't sure what's happening to herself and who she can believe. Everyone seems to be keeping secrets and hiding their true nature. Something has got to give though. Even though Ashline hasn't accessed her powers yet, she better find them soon because she might be the only one strong enough to find the answers.

Wow. That was a really strange and sometimes intense little novel. I really wish the next two books were out already, I really want to see where the journey takes Ashline. This book did end fine though, one story all bundled up, but a bit of a start into what's next. At times, honestly, this book was cheesy. Funny cheesy, but still. There's a part near the beginning, when someone is getting kidnapped and they all spring into action. It was a little too super hero for this book. I was expecting a comic blow-by-blow complete with speech bubbles *KABLAM* *POW*. It was good though, just a bit cheesy. The other thing that was a bit odd, is Ashline's roommate conveniently being gone the whole book. I mean, how long does it take for a funeral? For a while I though that she was just going to fade away never to be spoke of again. This was a really fun book though. Plenty of adventure and discovery. I loved all the characters, they interacted so naturally and were complete goofs. Well, maybe not all of them. There were some very interesting turns of events that I did not see coming and some sad moments. Another thing about this book (not Karsten Knight's fault) that I disliked was the back cover. It sort of gives away something that you spend a lot of the book puzzling out. It's not a huge deal, but it's a bit odd that they chose lines from near the end of the novel to put on the back. I really cannot wait until we get to see what happens next though, I'm sure it will be awesome...and cheesy.

First Line:
"Ashline Wilde was a human mood ring."

Favorite Lines:
"'First of all, if you're including yourself as a 'blessing' then there must not be a God. And second, if you really knew me, or maybe even had half a gorilla's brain...'"

"'Don't get me wrong—he's hot as hell, and in another life I would have liked to wear him as a mink coat. But when your first thought about someone is wondering whether they're some sort of handsome woodland serial killer, it's hard to build an attraction.'"

  2. I really liked Wildefire. The beginning was a little slow for me, but once the stories came into play, I felt like it all took off. The characters and interactions were amazing too. Karsten did such a wonderful job fleshing them all out and making me care about them.

I hadn't noticed anything on the back cover giving stuff away, so I'll have to go check it now :)
