Banning books is unacceptable. Who are they to decide for us what is "acceptable" and "not acceptable" to read. Who is Scroggins to say that Speak is "pornographic". A lot of the times people don't even read the books they want to ban. Banned book week is coming up, and if you haven't already, do yourself a favor and read or buy a banned book. They are many times the building blocks of literature.

Below is a list of links of bloggers speaking out against book banning and censorship--in the form of giveaways, posts, and reviews. Some are "officially" participating in what we're calling Bloggers Speak Out, and others are posts that we've found around the blogosphere. If you get time, you should definitely check them out!

Extra 5 points if you make/made a #Speakloudly or Bloggers Speak out post. Thanks!
I've read both SPEAK and TWENTY BOY SUMMER. Was there a reason he targeted books about healing? It makes me sick that someone can be so cruel as to take away hope from girls going through similar situations.
ReplyDeleteI haven`t read any of this books but I`d really really really love to. I`ve seen the movie SPEAK, though. And I was really impressed. It really made me think about the problem.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the giveaway.

I still can't believe these books should be banned!!
ReplyDeleteMy opinion is that books should not be banned...doesn't matter their content. It's our choice if we want to read it or not.

I'm glad you're all doing this. No one should force their opinions on the rest of us and decide what we should and should not read.

It's really nice to see the YA community coming together to support great authors. I agree with the others, I get to choose what I read. Book banning is ridiculous.

People do have the right to say if they object to a book, but to try and take it away from others? That's just unacceptable.

I don't understand the whole concept of banning books - it's just stupid. That's what I think. I'm looking forward to reading more banned books, specially Speak (which I haven't read yet).
